CENTER FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PRESENTS COURSES YOUR WAY

Whether it's in the classroom, online, or a live webcast, Northwestern University Center for Public Safety is committed to providing academic excellence in a format that works for you at all stages of your career. Therefore, we will continue to develop webcasts, webinars, and online courses on a regular basis. Please visit us on the web frequently to find out about the latest online offerings.

Remember, we are especially conscientious about maintaining the high quality that you have come to expect and that's why we are eager to work with you as we develop these new programs.

The Senior Manager's Leadership Program - Webcast is by far the most popular. This half day program focuses on critical issues of interest to chiefs and deputy chiefs nationwide. (See schedule and register here for June 4th session>>) The new fall session begins with:

  • Honoring the Sacred Trust
  • Succession Planning
  • High Profile Crime and the Media, and much more.

The program is webcast live on the first Wednesday of each month from 9am to noon.

You will be able to access the live streaming video and interact through questions and answers from the convenience of your desktop. (See computer system requirements here>>)

Attending on the web frees you from the expense and time associated with the commute to campus.

"I just want to thank you for arranging the Web Cast it was great to view the conference without leaving work.  It saved me over 6 hours of time especially with the heavy snow storm."

Tuition is $75 per session. Members of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police pay only $50.

Accident Investigation Online 1 and 2 are both up and running and have proven to be especially beneficial to the investigator who is a self-starter and needs to prepare for the entire series of on-campus Accident Reconstruction courses.

As we continue to create new programs we welcome your input. Please contact Jason Stamps with any recommendations or questions at 847-491-5270 or 800-323-4011 or j-stamps@northwestern.edu.

CHICAGO PD FINDS POSITIVE ROLE MODELS AMONG CENTER FOR PUBLIC SAFETY GRADUATES

When newly appointed Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis announced his first promotions, he said he was looking for "positive role models."

He found those role models among the graduates of Northwestern University Center for Public Safety's prestigious School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC).

SPSC graduates Beatrice Cuello last month became the first woman to head the Bureau of Patrol (Read more here>>), and  Al Wysinger has been promoted to Deputy Chief of Organized Crime.

SPSC graduate Tina Skahill has been named Chief of Internal Affairs. Among those promoted to district commander this month are Keith Calloway, Dennis Keane, Lucio Martinez, (SPSC graduates) and Mike Mealer (SPSC instructor). (Read Chicago Sun Times story here>>)

Because all of us at the Center are committed to advancing excellence, we celebrate when we learn of your successes. Please remember to tell us about your accomplishments so that we can share the good news with your colleagues.
